There is nothing like having a guitar that plays and sounds great! A proper guitar setup ensures that your electric, acoustic or bass guitar is performing at peak condition. It keeps the little things from going out of whack in the future and also personalizes the instrument to your preferences. A proper setup will help you to get the most out of your instrument!!
Basic Guitar and Bass Setup Includes the following
Truss Rod Adjustments
Adjusting the truss rod tension changes the curvature (add or decrease bowing) of your neck. The amount of curvature is known as “relief.
The primary purpose of adjusting the truss rod is to maintain an ideal string action. Proper adjustment gives you the lowest possible string action without fret buzz.
String Action (String Height)
String height or action is the distance between the top of your frets to the bottom of your strings. This distance plays a key role in your setup because it determines the ease in which your guitar can be played.
Tuning and Intonation
Tuning and intonation are the final touches to a guitar setup. Setting intonation and tuning the guitar result in every note sounding perfect anywhere up or down the fretboard.
Pickup Height Adjustment
After the string action and radius have been set, the next step is to adjust the pickup height. After adjusting the action, the distance between the strings and the poles of a pickup may have changed, and the pickup height has to be corrected to get the best sound.
Fret Care
During the guitar setup, all frets will be checked for buzzing, uneven height or rough spots and fret sprouting. Fret work is not included in the cost of a guitar setup. If any fret issues are found I will contact you and discuss the options that are available.
Cleaning, Polishing, Detailing
Every guitar setup includes cleaning and polishing of the guitar body, neck, fretboard and hardware. All fretboards will be treated with wood conditioner (F-ONE Oil or Mineral Oil) unless otherwise specified.
